Two Remarkable Women exhibit at the Nina Bliese Gallery

Minneapolis, MN - The Nina Bliese Gallery features two internationally recognized women artists to start the 2008 season, Robyn Horn and Ann Ginsburgh Hofkin. The exhibit runs from February 18 through March 28, 2008. The Opening is Thursday February 21st from 5PM to 8PM.

Robyn Horn lives and works in Arkansas. Her sculptures have been recognized around the world as some of the finest examples of wood art to be created in the last quarter century. In describing her process Horn states "The process of wood materializing into these stone shapes is the basis of what I am trying to accomplish creatively. Artists are definitely influenced by the nature of the material and its resistance to being changed. Changing the wood, changing the conception of its form is the intriguing part of creating for me. The look and feel of wood lends itself to a warmer feeling than stone, which adds to the intrinsic value of the material."

Ann Ginsburgh Hofkin lives and works in Minneapolis, MN. The images in the current exhibit are black and white infrared photographs that speak of mysticism and spirituality. Currently, she has a one-person show at Nof Tavor in Israel. In May, 2007, she had a show in Gallery 2 at A.I.R. Gallery in New York City, and in June, 2007, her photographs were featured in a solo exhibition at the Givatayim Theatre in Tel Aviv. In October, Ginsburgh Hofkin’s work comprised the exhibition “Off the Wall” at the Sande Webster Gallery in Philadelphia. In addition, a portfolio of her photographs was featured in the August-September issue of Camera Arts Magazine. She says of her work “In my photographs, the elements of the invisible and immeasurable are added to the image area to produce surprises that may be frightening or exhilarating…or both. After all, many aspects of life are beyond our control.”

The artists will be speaking about their work on Thursday evening , February 21st at 7 PM in the Nina Bliese Gallery located on the ground floor of the 225 South 6th Street building in Minneapolis. Gallery hours are noon to 5PM and always by appointment
